Its crazy what just happened in the Plains and Upper MidWest. Normal April snowfall in Minneapolis is 2.4"! They got 22" and still snowing! Most April snow on record there. People digging out this morning across Southern MN and Iowa and Wisconsin.
As I pointed out with the 850mb temp map, it was impressive to see that dive south with that cold airmass and the upper low over southern Plains.
Remarkable to see snow cover so persistent and deep this far into April. Don't think I've ever seen anything like this in my life. As someone who loves snow though, this boosted my snow totals above average for the season

I look at maps multiple times a day and seeing things I'm sure many others don't bother looking at. It's interesting to say the least. The persistency of it is what fascinates me.
Looks like a cold trough entering the PacNW again.
You don't see closed Upper Lows that far south over Iowa with that cold of an airmass in April often.
Current Surface Map.. Big Ole Canadian High and a cold front over D.C now
Snow cover this morning.. You can scroll back previous years to see how it compares.
Heavy rain about 85 miles to my west offshore where i fished all the time. If the upper level support holds together i may get lucky and get .50" or more. Moving slow at this time.
