Just found another one: The midland WR 100 has the s.a.m.e. technology (specific weather alerts for your area) and it also turns on automatically.

Try to find one that you can program your county and warning preference. You wouldn't want to be awaken in the middle of the night for a flash flood warning two counties away, or even a tornado warning 50 miles away. I used to have one a while ago that would go off for any warning anywhere. It got old quick.

Yeah I do not want to get woke up for that, but a tornado in a neighboring county would not be bad. I'm just trying to figure out what the best one is, I hear some of them don't come on when a warning is issued.

Thats what S.A.M.E. (specific alert message encoding) technology is for. That's one of the main things to look for in a weather radio. That way, you only receive warnings for your area.

WELL, I don't have one. But if I was going to get one, here is what I would do. I'd go with Bydand and others and get a "Midland". I am just watching a weather special on my local station and they were just talking about this.

This is what we're supposed to do in my area~Go to Hy-Vee and purchase one for a price of 29.95 OR log on to Keloland.com and buy one through the station. They just gave the instructions for programming it for your county OR you can have multiple counties. For instance, if you live at the end of one, you can program your neighboring county into it. They also have the instructions right on their website.

I know you live in a totally different area, but I'd suggest that you visit the website of your local weather. Hopefully they have the same kind of info for your area.

I have a Midland with S.A.M.E. and it works great... I actually got mine on eBay for about $15.
Jammie, you should get one! We both know how crazy the weather will get around here!

Yea, it does. As long as DH keeps his same job, we don't need one. He gets a phone call when the weather starts getting rough so we are alerted that way. BUT if that changes in the near future, we probably will opt for a weather radio.
