What exactly is anomalous northern blocking? Is it a high to the north of us?
Yes, it's over Greenland and forces the jet stream south of its usual position, which means we get loads of low pressure systems (which would normally affect Scotland) rather than the normal summer pattern with the Azores high influencing our weather.
The high is forecast to be 35C here this weekend, with lows of 24C (& those lows will be inland, at the coast will be 2-3C warmer). It's going to be a big shock to the system as we here too had an unusually cool May, after a cooler than average April too.

The forecast for the next 2 weeks is absolutely dire. The warmest day only reaches 21c. It looks worse than June 2007!
No way, June 2007 was FAR worse (the worst I can remember), Southern England was badly flooded, acres and acres under water, wasn't the Boscastle tragedy that year too? Yes its a bit cool and showery but we always have periods like this from time to time sometimes in the Summer and sometimes in the Winter don't we? The week after next is looking more promising so the second half of June will be sunny and in the seventies (not great but not awful), usually one of the 3 Summer months are a bit 'off' anyway so July and August are going to be Scorchio!......................perhaps!
