Don't gotta shovel rain. Wonder their thoughts when we get that much snow, or more, in the same 24 hour period here on the east coast

Hanalei is on the north shore of Kauai, which is considered the windward side because the prevailing winds (trade winds) come from the NE. Its average annual rainfall is around 80 inches- about "right" for a tropical locale but not particularly impressive for a Hawaii location.

No place inhabited by people in Hawaii gets close to Mt. Waialeale's rainfall average. Highest in Hawaii would probably be the subdivisions around Glenwood on the Big Island, at approximately 230 inches/year.

That amount of snow would be a 24 hour record for any east coast state, but the snow equivalent of 49 inches of rain would be a world record of snow!
