Korea and China below average today. Vladivostok and Primorskiy Krai was average on the other hand, with the relative cold concentrated further south, even though temps were quite cold there as well. It was also about -5°C in Sapporo, so below average conditions also fell there.

42°C in South Sudan earlier today? In the Northern Hemisphere (8°N) on 6 January? Wow! Looking at averages and record temps that would either beat or match the all-time record for many areas around there. "Winter" is the hot season there since it's too equatorial for sun strengths to matter, rather when the wet and dry seasons are.

We haven't had a stretch of 4 dry days in a row since November 18-20!

I'm hoping for a year long drought soon!!

Now that's what I'm talking about! Hopefully a sign of things to come.

I'm not a big fan of the sun , unless it's about -20 C or colder outside

The northeast will NEVER see a drought ever again thanks to climate change. Own it. The south the northeast and west coast will all become substantially wetter than present thanks to global warming, the ONLY part of the lower 48 states at risk of becoming a desert are the plains and Midwest

Isleofpalms, thoughts on the Sudanese heat wave? Given you being rather concerned about the pace of the global warming and said predictions, when do you predict a 42°C reading in the United States in November-March? Furnace Creek has recorded 39°C in March after all.

I predict a 42 C reading somewhere in the lower 48 between November and March by around 2050 or so, as for my thoughts on the Sudanese heat wave, the country of Sudan is already hot desert climate and being close to the equator, they are more prone to extreme heat anyways, so they should expect more of the same weather wise in the next several decades as climate change worsens.

Lol. We had a drought just 2 yrs ago. Must of been before the climate was changing. I'm attributing 2018 and maybe 19 to the low sun spots or just one of those "patterns"

No. I had enough of Seattle weather. I hate clouds, mist, and precip no matter what the temp is.

apparently this has already happened, though I cannot verify the legitimacy of the source (though it seems ok)

I remember last year on Feb 21 when it reached into the 70s F. So it could be a lot, lot worse than this. This pattern is a godsend compared to that month. Makes me cringe (even gag) just to think about it (luckily we got some March/April redemption though).

I said to trade summers (not the entire year) which means you'd get less rain, more sun, and cooler temperatures. I'd get NYC-like summers with warmer temperatures and more rain which I prefer.
