Yea, double barrel block with some cross-polar flow signatures right there, looks appetizing. Hopefully the Lake Superior Snowbelt will have a few feet of snow on the ground by the end of January when I'm there.

Torching here in the PNW. Forecast from 1/9 on out is nothing but 50ºF/10ºC+ highs.

This is the coolest "torch" I've ever experienced. We were stuck in the pea soup in northeast Georgia from the last weekend of December through New Year's Day, with highs in the 60s and lows in the 50s, but the atmosphere has gradually dried out since, and nighttime low temperatures have gradually decreased.

What's been odd, though, is that daytime high temperatures have not decreased, so the last couple of days have had a very large diurnal range. On Sunday, the morning low was 38°F, and the afternoon high was 70°F. Yesterday, the morning low was 39°F, and the afternoon high was 69°F.

As I've said before, I prefer the temperature to be no warmer than 60°F during the winter, but even a dry 70°F is tolerable, because it doesn't feel quite that warm, and the temperature quickly falls as the sun sets. Be that as it may, 75°F or higher is unacceptable during the winter regardless of humidity level.

Today is expected to be the last mild day in a while, though, and low temperatures later this week will be back below freezing for the first time since Christmas. The weekend ahead will have the kind of weather that I live for this time of year, with cold rain and easterly winds all weekend long, and temperatures staying in the 40s. It'll be perfect weather for staying in, ordering a pizza and watching playoff football.

From next week through at least the end of the month, it appears that temperatures will be chilly for the most part, with 60°F being the ceiling. In fact, it appears that the imminent cold cycle will last until about the middle of February.

Yes, I think we are in store for a major winter comeback starting around the 20th and potentially running through much of February and into March.

2:45-6:45am loop. Another day with less than 1/4" snow here.
Looks like NYC and Long Island stayed all liquid.

New England View. Maine with snow again.

Northern Europe at 2 pm. Sizeable snowfall on the coast north of Stockholm right now, whereas southern Sweden is rather mild. Quite asymmetrical air temps also over the North Atlantic Ocean, with 74°N having 3°C air temps, whereas it's right around freezing north of Iceland.
