Does anyone have engine block heaters in Chicago? I think there are going to be a lot of dead cars Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
I was just thinking about that. Some people do, but it's not common. I remember back in the early 80s when we had similar episodes of cold my dad used to wake up in the middle of the night and start our cars and just have them run for a while.
Current temps 1F at ORD and IKK, 2F at MDW. -2F at the National Weather Service in Romeoville. Wind chills in the -20F range... Not rising at all through out the day.
We had some flash freezing last night after rain yesterday afternoon followed by temperatures falling from 40 degrees to 18 degrees in the course of about 3 hours. But most roads were in decent shape this morning. Definitely worse as you get north of Indianapolis. Not terrible today, relatively speaking, with a current temp of 12 (wind chill -5) going for a high of 14. Tonight is when the deep freeze happens as our low drops to -12 with wind chills in the -25 to -35 range. Schools in session as normal today but I'm expecting them to be closed tomorrow.
latest forecast per our local tv weather presenter. Bad enough with the typical continental up and down nonsense:
From Last week... It's happening.
