It's not exactly a polar vortex but the combination of a closed upper-level low over Vancouver Island and that blocking high over Greenland is poised to give Alberta its first sustained stretch of cold weather this winter starting this weekend.
The cold air looks to spread back east by the following weekend. Chicago is definitely in the firing line again but how much further east and south will it go?
Last night's event was a big disappointment. I didn't get any snow and didn't even notice any ice pellets. Temps stayed warmer than expected as the moisture was coming in... All I got was rain; the first batch of precip came as t-storms.
