If you mean California, I’ll give you that our water is cold (especially here in the Bay Area) - but ugly looking?? I don’t think so!
Bay Area has cold water alright (rarely gets above 60F and never above 65F) but Southern California's SST was in the upper 70s this past July and Santa Monica is still holding on to 70F SST and will probably stay in the upper 60s most of October.
Nonetheless, I would still vote for Myrtle Beach for the thunderstorms.

yes but those were record warm waters so..... yeah no southern California has cold waters
