Well today is lovely. I woke up 7 AM so I could start painting the deckboards I laid yesterday as more rain is expected, they originally said Monday but now the rain will be here Tuesday, had to get in the painting before the moisture again. Currently 70, high of 80 expected, dewpoint 55. A+ day for painting.

I saw this video of street flooding in New Orleans. Houston also got flooding yesterday. Fortunately most homes in NOLA are elevated but 400 homes got flooded in the Kingwood neighborhood of Houston. The early French settlers of New Orleans were smart, they elevated their homes around 3 feet above grade, maybe Houston will learn this lesson. The flooding in New Orleans was bothersome but no real flooding. The flooding in Houston will mean 400 families out of their homes for repairs.

Is the way you can tell heaters are running on neighbors' homes is the exhaust pipe vent with steam/smoke?
That's how I usually tell.

Only if they are burning wood. Otherwise the efficiency of oil and gas boilers don't produce smoke so you cant tell. But with temps like they are you can be sure everyone has their heat on..

Let me grab some maps

Yup, but I'd be happy with a middle like NC right now. 70s.

Normal max is mid 60s (70F in Hartford) and its snowing in Massachusetts "during the day". Western MA near the hills but still.. Normal max is 65 for Pittsfield.

Current radar & 850mb temps. Blue Line indicates the freezing line at 5000'. So anyone north of that line above 3000' with precip falling is seeing snow. If precip is heavy enough areas at 1500' will be seeing snow too.
