I'm in Zone 3. So far (Sat., 10:15 am) we have a dusting of snow. My grass is barely covered.
Sure hope it snows all day and all night so that we get enough to make up for the local hysteria on the news and in the grocery stores for the past 24 hours.
You don't miss a chance to insult Kansas City, do you?
Yes, people will drive terribly. No, the city won't shut down.
Hmm, looks like the municipalities need to face reality and spend more money on necessary equipment so you won't have people getting stuck on the roads. The St. Louis scenario was a complete debacle, and they had plenty of advance warning as it was an excellent forecast.

Its the people that are clueless most times ignoring forecasts... Sometimes its DOT like back in November in PA, NJ, NY, CT. Sometimes its bosses that are clueless risking employees lives. Sometimes its just people that dont know how to drive in it. Sometimes its just bad tires.
Ever since people got stuck overnight on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago, I don't buy the "people are unprepared because of where they live" schlock.
I do think "part" of it has to do with very intense snowfall rates before rush hour, but the NWS may want to delineate those scenarios with a special snow advisory due to timing. The forecast for the snow amounts were very accurate, so those places had plenty of warning to prepare. Employers should have let more employees telework whenever possible during those scenarios as well.
