I have invented a new climate rating system tuned to my preferences. It isn't perfect yet, with some slightly surprising results, but here are a few cities as they compute by my new system, in descending order of grade:
Islamabad, Pakistan: A-
Tampa, Florida, USA: A-
Bangkok, Thailand: B
Los Angeles, California, USA: B-
New York City, New York, USA: C
Chicago, Illinois, USA: C (this one surprised me, thought it would be worse due to cold winters).
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: C
Melbourne, Australia: C-
Naples, Italy: C- (thought it would be higher, and odd it was beaten by Chicago)
Paris, France: D+
London, England: D-
Seattle, Washington, USA: E+
Sheffield, England: E+
Buxton, England: E
St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada: E-
Seattle did somewhat worse than London due to the wet winter/dry summer combination which I don't like.
D+
Bilbao, Spain Hobart, Tasmania
Paris, France
Portland, Oregon
Cheyenne, Wyoming
San Francisco, California

A bit side tracked here, but just noticed that official (Bom) Hobart stats show large reductions in rainfall days within short distances - a reduction from 87 days>!mm down to 59 days>1mm, within 2.5km, and an increase of another 15 days, within 4 km. a large gap between 1mm days and 0.2mm days as well, with an additional 60 days over 0.2mm on top of the 87> 1mm days -sounds suspect
Interested why Wellington would rate lower than Hobart -about as warm, and only 200 hours less sun.
