Warm summer compared to Iqaluit.

Cool summer compared to Bull Head City, Arizona.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. Who am I to judge.
It's sunny right now where I live and I've been outside in shorts and a t-shirt

I just had some lunch and now I'm going out to see a mate. Any plans for later?

Your unwillingness to present a reasoned explanation as to why 75% obscured sun, doesn't equal gloomy, indicates that there isn't a reasoned explanation.

Truth speaks for itself, even if the answer isn't always immediately obvious.

Only cloud cover above 80% is gloomy. 75% is mostly cloudy but 5 hours of sun a day is sunny.

Reykjavík has a low sunshine percentage in summer, even though the amount of hours is higher than in some oceanic low-latitude areas. I think Randomguy does underestimate how much daylight there is though, so the percentage is not as high as in those.

Still, among all these gloomy climates (below 1,900 hours annually), here are July sunshine hours:

Spoiler

Tallinn 307
Helsinki 291
Churchill 282
Oulu 283
Umeå 282
Abbotsford 277
Saint Petersburg 267
Riga 264
Port Alberni 263
Stockholm 260
Östersund 259
Kaliningrad 257
Kiruna 243
Oslo 242
Munich 238
Iqaluit 237
Gdansk 236
Murmansk 236
Gothenburg 234
Stuttgart 232
Copenhagen 228
Prague 226
Inukjuak 226
Southampton 222
Bodø 221
Berlin 218
Hamburg 218
St. John's 217
Amsterdam 217
Nantes 214
Rotterdam 213
London 212
Paris 212
Cologne 210
Ponta Delgada 208
Kuujjuaq 205
Bremen 205
Tromsø 205
Växjö 202
Brussels 201
Cardiff 199
Stavanger 197
Goose Bay 197
Gijón 194
Eupen 191
Flores 189
Santander 187
Bilbao 186
Nuuk 186
Trabzon 183
Magadan 183
Manchester 180
Edinburgh 172
Petropavlovsk 171
Niigata 170
Reykjavík 168
Bergen 167
Cork 167
Sapporo 165
Aberdeen 165
Asahikawa 162
Aomori 160
Akureyri 158
Longyearbyen 155
Glasgow 154
Dublin 152
Belfast 151
Lerwick 124
Tórshavn 104

As you see here, only the Northern British/North Atlantic/Northern Japan climates have fewer July sunshine hours than Reykjavík among those listed here. That is mainly because Britain is abnormally cloudy, rather than anything else. Since he is British, I think he might have a different idea of what constitutes a "sunny summer" than people who come from elsewhere might have. It's not the end of the world For its geographical position, Reykjavík is "less cloudy" than expected, but the summers are definitely not sunny even by "gloomy climate" standards and aided by the abundance of daylight. I think that's the most objective summation of all that.

These are just self serving statements, and I asked for a reasoned explanation.

Is a reasoned explanation going to be forthcoming?
