Wilko, since you said the earth is going to be uninhabitable if it gets a few degrees warmer, what would happen then if ReykjavÃk got 5°C warmer and then resembled Liverpool? Would it still be uninhabitable?
There's always seawalls and then Iceland has plenty of highland, so ReykjavÃk would just move eastward. Also, the majority of ReykjavÃk is above 30 metres asl, which makes it extremely safe from sea level rise. Parts of it is even close to 100 m asl. Even harbourside areas are 6-10 metres over the line. It would take a lot more than 5°C warmer a climate to change that...
Really, even in Santa Monica? Most of the year is below 70°F during the day. And that's warm not cold or freezing. Santa Monica has never gone below freezing.
I know that Santa Monica has not gone below freezing. But people who live in Southern California, especially inland, where it gets very hot during the summer, complain that they feel like they are freezing when it gets below 70F.

Absolute rubbish, 60-70°F is delightful, shorts and t-shirt weather, nowhere near freezing.
Nah, not even close. Their crummers are chilly and cloudy. It's a CCC season: chilly cloudy crummer.
25% of possible sunshine in July?!? That's way too gloomy, combined with an average of 11°C in the warmest month... I can see why very few trees can grow there! F-----

Of course it is not literally near freezing. Are you saying that people SHOULDN'T complain that it's freezing, or DON'T complain that it's freezing?
Maybe they shouldn't, but they certainly do. Although after this last month, people have acclimated to the point that 65F is feeling pretty good.
