Was that NYC? I heard they had a very hot April in 2010.

In Nashville we never hit 90 in April 2010 but it was 87 F / 31 C on the 5th and 6th, both record highs for their dates. It hit 87 again on March 15, 2016, the warmest day in astronomical winter ever recorded. I remember that day, it felt quite hot. Here in Nashville, we can get 80's anytime in March or April and low 90's in May, but 95+ temperatures seem to be restricted to summer and September (and, soon, for the first time, the very beginning of October). We've had 95+ days in the second half of September several times in the 2010s but only one instance of them in May, that was in 2012 and at the end of the month.

The early spring and late fall's patterns are reversed; it's a lot easier to get warm in March than November.

Looks like a chilly end to September over the PNW. Highs could struggle to pass 12C in Vancouver by Friday. Haven't seen this kind of stuff in a while; a throwback to our climate of years past.

Hopefully these cold anomalies continue into the winter! Would like to see a cold Dec or Jan with a Arctic blast centred over BC rather than Oregon or Montana as we've seen in recent winters.

Cold front came through overnight and its still in the 60s. At least we got 0.08" of rain.

Since August 23rd the pattern changed to a drier one.

NYC only had 2 in 1941 and never had more than 2.
Philly had 3 in 1941.
DC had 5 in 1941.
October 1941 was nuts.

Pacific Moisture into Cold air = .......

Meteorologist Coulston has a nice write up. As I and the GFS been saying, Heads up Montanians. Leaves still on trees! NWS Mets were reluctant to even bring this up last week now they are.

Area Forecast Discussion...
National Weather Service Great Falls MT
434 AM MDT Tue Sep 24 2019

.SYNOPSIS...

Breezy to windy conditions will continue through this evening.
Isolated showers are possible across the Rocky Mountain and portions
of the central and northern plains today and tonight. After a quiet
day with near normal temperatures and lighter winds on Wednesday, an
active and colder weather pattern may bring a potential for
accumulating snow for all elevations by the weekend.

Wednesday Night through next Tuesday...
This period will begin with relatively mild and breezy
conditions, but forecast models continue to indicate that a
significant winter storm will likely impact the area Friday and
through the weekend.

Cold Canadian air will then spread
south over the forecast area behind the front beginning on Friday,
but the coldest air will linger over the area over the weekend
and into early next week. Highs will fall into the 30s at lower
elevations and the 20s in the mountains by Sunday, and lows will
mostly be in the upper teens to mid 20s. Breezy northerly winds
may also cause very cold wind chill temperatures well into the
teens at times.

Forecast models have come into much better
agreement with regard to the previously mentioned low pressure
area. They strengthen it and move it south into the Pacific
Northwest by Saturday, where it generally lingers through the
remainder of this period. As a result, it should tap into
moisture from the Pacific and move it over the cold airmass in
place.

This should bring periods of precipitation to the area.
Snow levels look more likely to fall to the surface over the
plains, and possibly in the southwest valleys as well. This
should bring periods of wet snow to much of the area. With leaves
still on most trees, this wet snow could cause fallen branches and
downed power lines.

The cold and wet weather will also negatively
affect young livestock. Will continue to message the potential for
this storm and prepare for the likelihood that winter weather
highlights will be needed. Although there is still some
uncertainty on exact snow amounts, there is a potential for
multiple inches of accumulation at lower elevations, which could
cause widespread negative impacts.
Coulston

I could of just bolded the entire thing. lol

Woke up to some much needed rain in the ozarks and currently at 63f, dew point of 60. High today is 69f which will feel great.

Our leaves are starting to turn here. It's slight but that's expected as our peak isn't until late October but the colors are definitely changing. Woods are thinning and grass isn't really growing much more. I'll have one more good cut this weekend and that'll be it which is exactly on schedule.

For the next 5 days, warmest expected high is 37°C in Cizre followed by a low of 18°C at the night.

Due to the low humidity, day and night temperature difference is high.

Dropped into the mid-50s this morning, pretty close to normal for late September. Had the kids at the bus stop in jackets for the first time this year.
