Bastardi discusses his winter forecast here. He thinks December might be a torch but look out again January into March. Basically a repeat of last winter

On the other hand, most of the analogs you were showing featured near-normal temperatures in December for Oklahoma. They tended to all have a cold January and warm February. But I don't really care for an early start to spring.

Last Spring wasn't good in the NE. Very early warming and then much colder weather with a late wet Spring. A very good summer growing season with drying in July and August gave the state a very good corn crop but it was in doubt in early June from delayed plantings and rain. I could do without another one like that.

2 inches of snow in Knoxville, TN. Highly abnormal to get snow in November.

We will probably have a cold and snowy winter (yay!).

The last bad winter we had started like this, a snow in November.

Some of these models that are calling for a December torch might be changing their tune soon

Euor showing a Polar Vortex Split for the last week of November. This would translate to a very cold start for winter if it happens
