Minimums cooler, maximums warmer, rainfall much lower, sunshine a bit above average
With more EWS conversions some sunshine anomalies have been removed. Alex EWS has been running from last April and shows the same sunshine values as Cromwell. Its manual sites had been unrealistically low for many years. There are still a few manual sites that are clearly not giving trustworthy data. And even Nelson manual while not looking unreasonable, has been recording less than a decade or so back. Readings from Palmerston (Otago), Winton and Finegand are clearly faulty and have been for years.
While one can argue about what EWSs are really measuring, at least now nearly all stations are using the same method.
It looks like the high Arctic was colder than average, but the subarctic was much, much warmer than average. Alaska was chilly but northern Europe looks like it was a blowtorch.
Temperatures in period 1-26 January 2020 in the 4 places in Siberia (Yakutia).
