Sydney may not be as humid as Charleston, but they are in the same general climate type, whereas Los Angeles is an entirely different climate type. Even though Sydney and Charleston are not identical by any means, they are genetically closer.
Sydney and LA are more similar. Both have similar temperatures year round, both have dry heat when it occurs, Sydney maybe might be more prone to extreme heat though
I'd say LA, despite Charleston and Sydney both being humid subtropical climates, and LA having dry Mediterranean summers. I could understand the argument that it's more similar to Charleston based on summer precipitation and thus climate classification. But the temperature differences trump that for me.
I think Sydney is much more like LA because the temperature range is much closer and when it's hot in Sydney, it's a dry heat unlike Charleston which is very humid in summer.
