June 2020 Summary Sheffield

As is often the case, it was a very inconsistent month with lots of temperature changes and a large variety of weather conditions. The first two days were warm and sunny, before unsettled rubbish with supressed temps and rainy weather set in until 12th. 13th-17th was warm and humid with showers and storms. Then a brief rainy cold period, before a heatwave in the final third, seeing nearly 30°C reached. It was wetter and cloudier but also milder than average.

June 2020 Summary

A very warm, cloudy and slightly dry June. The first 10 days was genuinely early-May weather and possibly the longest stretch of warmth I've ever seen in June. At Perth Metro 7 of the first 10 days were 24.0C+ maxima and 2 nights at or above 15.0C. A frontal system from the 10th-14th provided some needed rain before another stretch from the 15th-26th gave little rain aside from some short-lived fronts. A lot more rain came from the 26th-30th and topped up a lot of the monthly totals to a more suitable range. Had some sunny stretches from the 3rd-5th and 19th-21st but overall it was a fairly cloudy month.

Might be the warmest June ever, will post the BoM article when they release their monthly statement. From memory (and I posted anyway) the first 1/3 of June was something like 4C above average .

Jandakot:

Highest Max: 24.6C (5th AND 9th)
Mean Max: 21.0C (+1.9C)
Lowest Max: 17.7C (18th)

Monthly Anomaly: +2.25C

Highest Min: 14.7C (7th and 23rd)
Mean Min: 10.1C (+2.6C)
Lowest Min: 3.3C (20th)

Rain: 101.4mm (66.1% of average 153.5mm)
Rain Days: 17 (+1.4 days)
Sun: 169.3 hours
Sun hours per day: 5.6 (-0.5 hours/day)

Perth:

Highest Max: 25.5C (4th)
Mean Max: 21.4C (+1.9C)
Lowest Max: 18.2C (18th)

Monthly Anomaly: +2.0C

Highest Min: 15.1C (6th)
Mean Min: 10.7C (+2.1C)
Lowest Min: 3.4C (20th)

Rain: 115.4mm (90.3% of average 127.8mm)
Rain Days: 17 (+2.6 days)
Sun: 169.3 hours
Sun hours per day: 5.6 (-0.5 hours/day)

QUICK EDIT:
First June warmer than May since 2015, haven't found any years before 2015 so it's rare.

Here are the 3 main temperature sites in the city of Chicago.

ORD is official and was +5.1F. The average max was 28.9C the average low 17.7C.

8 days at or above 90F (32.2C)
15 days at or above 86F (30.0C)
10 days when lows at or above 68F (20.0C)
7 days when lows at or above 70F (21.1C)

Overall a very warm and sunny month. First month to have above average sunshine this year and only third month with above average sunshine in the last 18 months! We had a few good thunderstorms too. No major heat wave but consistently well above normal. Turns out to be tied for the 7th warmest June on record with 1949 and 2012.

Conroe, Texas (Airport station) June 2020

Highest Temp 97°F
Lowest Temp 57°F
Minimum High 81°F
Maximum Low 81°F

Avg High 91.9°F
Avg Low 69.6°F

Mean Temp 80.7°F Dep +0.7

7.23 Inches of Precip
9 Days of Precip

In terms of humidity the 1st half of the month was quite a bit drier than average save for a humid wave around the 9th of the month. Lows were a good amount below average by the middle of the month. The second half of the month saw cooler days, but the humidity came back as well as the rain and the warm muggy nights. Even with the string of below average lows, this month still ended up being warmer than normal, even though it felt personally on the cooler side to me.

Correction. Above I stated that this was Chicago's 7th warmest on record but it's actually tied with 1949 and 2012 for the 6th warmest on record.

Here is a look at the June climate numbers for Chicago and Rockford. Overall, it was a very warm month with temperatures 2 to 5 degrees F above normal. Precipitation was generally near or below normal.

All I know is the last nice day, and night to get into the 40's was June 1st.

That late spring weather was welcomed and nice. (June 13 - 17)

There was a couple decent days after that nice run, but after that.......

Somehow this terribly cloudy June ended up above average, so the last below average June remains 2012.
