"Surface water temperatures averaged over all of the Great Lakes, except the deep and choppy Lake Superior, have risen well into the 70s while Lake Erie has flirted with 80 degrees. That’s about the same water temperature as the surf off Virginia Beach."
I've been swimming far more in Lake Erie this summer at Mentor Headlands and Edgewater than in previous years and I definitely can tell the water is much warmer...it never froze over at all during this past winter...first time I can ever remember that happening...so it's not surprising.

This is probably why the heat wave is not as intense this time. Earlier in the year when the water temps were lower we had a much better chance of cracking the mid 90’s, but now due to peaking water temps there is storm activity that’s dampening the temps.
That’s a good thing, IMO. At least no more brown grass because it’s raining.
