For my personal taste, both are way too hot, but I would have to say Atlanta. It has cooler winters and the summers are cooler, even when considering the heat index. Austin is just too hot, especially in summer.
Root canal or a rectal exam? For me, that's the comparison. They both suck. Way too humid for my tastes. If forced to choose one, I'd take Atlanta. Slightly cooler in the summer with a vastly better tree canopy.
For me, Austin is a more pleasant climate. Summers are long and hot in both, a bit hotter in Austin in the summer, as well as warmer the rest year. The warmer rest of the year is why I find Austin more pleasant. October to April monthly averages for Atlanta are 72/54 63/44 54/36 52/34 56/37 64/44 72/51 VS Austin's October to April averages at 81/60 71/50 62/42 61/41 65/44 72/51 79/58. If you find warmer weather more comfortable, Austin going to have a lot more pleasant days than Atlanta.
I’d go with Atlanta, but it’s still too hot for me.
Austin is a nightmare. I saw an 87 F low temp once in the peak of summer
