I can just let you know that chicago winters are long, super long, uber cold, like frigid, and dark and gray. Chicago weather has to be the worst between November and March. For 5 straight months, Chicagoans may be lucky to see the sun for 3 days. And when it does shine, it's 2 degrees outside. The only good thing about Chicago is the wonderful colors of fall and the perfect summer.

Youll probably get a 50/50 mix on this poll here because many prefer Seattle's milder climate, some will prefer Chicago's 4 seasons.

Me? Take a guess which one I prefer.

Chicago's weather I find isnt that bad. Summers are pleasant most of the time, with temps in the 70s and 80s, and a handful of hot and sticky days in the 90s. There's no better place than Chicago in summer. Period.

Spring? Spring is wild. One day it can be 40, the next day 80. Today is a glorious 75, with a low of 65, same for tomorrow, then back into the 60s for the weekend. Last weekend it was windy and cold, temps in the low 50s and upper 40s. Just goes to show... Anyways, flowers and trees are blooming, sunshine is much more abundant, temps are heavenly. Some places in the country (that are often oddly compared to Chicago???) had several inches of snow last week. Not here, where we were in the 70s.

Winter? Also wild. Can be 20 degrees one day, 60 the next. We usually average 30/40 in the winter, with lows in the teens and 20s. Several days will be arctic, with single digit highs and lows below zero. Im one of the people who LOVE those nights, theyre so unbelievably clear and crisp, its something you cant explain. Snowfall is moderate, around 36" every year. This winter was horrible though, snow like MAD. But still, we all go to work, we all deal with it, and if you have any kind of adventure in you, you can enjoy it by snowmobiling, skiing, sledding, snowshoeing, etc, etc. Winters here are highly exaggerated, IMO.

Fall? Gorgeous. Temps in the 80s/70s/60s/50s/40s. Crisp nights, warm days. Beautiful colors and the like. Fall is gorgeous and my favorite time of the year here.

Seattle might have warmer winters, but for most of the year, I find Seattle's weather to be too depressing for my tastes. Not enough sunshine most of the year, and the constant rain/drizzle would drive me bonkers.

against the defensive aggressive Chicagoans ?

For me it's Summer/Winter - Seattle, Spring/Fall - Chicago.
Overall I personally prefer Seattle's moderate temps.
....although I do miss an old fashioned mid west thunderstorm.

Really? It snowed in Chicago on Monday 28th. How do I know this? People who live there told me. This wasn't even last week. It was this week

same as Seattle. The weather here is highly exaggerated too. It will not be 50/50 mix on this poll. Seattle will win for sure. There isn't more terrible weather in the country than Chicago's. And if there wasn't Montreal, Chicago would have the worst weather in the world

I think any facet of a city that is somewhat undesireable (weather in Seattle and Chicago, crime in Detroit, traffic in DC, heat in Houston, etc...) tends to get exaggerated by exasperated locals that feel the need to vent on a message board.
