As for fall, we usually start seeing signs of it, visually, around October 1st. It's rarely, if ever, before about September 20th and can go to about October 10th.

Where I live, that's hard to say. Autumn ends on Dec. 31, and Spring starts Jan. 01?

We have brutal Winters here. Anything below 58F is brutal. And snow? Forget about it! We have to travel to visit (and play in) snow.

Here in the upstate of South Carolina, in mid February I start hearing the frogs in the marshy area behind my house and some flowering shrubs and trees are starting to to bloom. First hints of autumn are probably mid October: cooler temps and the first hints of color in deciduous trees.

Northern California.

Spring - the first signs in early and mid March.
Autumn - late August, early September. You can start to feel a “tinge” of autumn in the air.

In Oslo, Norway we notice the snow is melting in late March or early April, but I guess people from subtropical areas don't consider that spring. Usually the trees turn green around the beginning of May. Early September is when the leaves start to change colour and it becomes chilly outside.

In San Diego, no real winter - it can be in the 70s in Jan, spring ends when get May grey and June gloom starts (overcast clouds in the morning that burn off around noon).

In Las Vegas, only a few days of winter when gets below freezing at night, daytime doesn't get that cold with most days 60f even in Dec and Jan. Spring is probably when start seeing above 35f at night and 65f days on a regular basis in Feb.

In Santa Cruz the leaves ( and flowering trees ) would return on Valentine's Day.
Sooooo wonderful . I'm in New York now & I am so homesick for California.

First sign of spring: Mid March when birds start chirping again in the morning.

First sign of autumn: Late August when some leaves barely start turning from green to yellow.

We get some of the early varieties of Azaleas in April, but we may still get freezing weather and snow. For example, we got snow Saturday morning here, and it's been below freezing (28-30F) each of the last 4 days. This are our big swing days when it can get 35-40 degrees warmer in the afternoon than in the morning. With frost this morning, Saturday it's supposed to hit 77.

Fall usually starts with the return of rain in mid-late September, the first frost will normally be the last week of October, the start of winter (fall is short).
Similar in NE PA(Pocono Mountains). My daffodils usually come up in early April like clockwork for the past 15 years. Early to mid May I start seeing leaves grow on the trees. That's when I know I will have to cut the lawn soon. However, forecasters are predicting a light snowy mix for this late Thursday into Friday.(mid April). Mother Nature has a sense of humor.
