April was the third month this year with below average temperature. This will not be a warm year, even if summer turns warm, because winter was cold. March was above average, as the only month so far this year. Average is 1991-2020.

Trondheim AP (12 m, Værnes):
Avg high: 7.6°C / 46°F
Avg low: -0.3°C / 31°F
Mean: 3.5°C (-1.6°C)
Abs high: 18.4°C / 65°F
Abs low: -3.7°C / 25°F
Precipitation: 63.4 mm (151 %)
Sunhours: 171 (83 % of avg last 5 years)

The south of Norway had a dry and sunny April with temps slightly below avg.
Oslo (94 m, Blindern):
Avg high: 11°C / 52°F
Avg low: 0.8°C / 33°F
Mean: 5.7°C (-0.5°C)
Abs high: 18.2°C / 65°F
Abs low: -3.5°C / 26°F
Precipitation: 13.7 mm (28 %)
Sunhours: 284 (above avg)

Sunniest was Kristiansand on the south coast, with as much as 323 sunhours in April - new national record high for April! The previous record was 308 sunhours recorded in Trondheim in April 2019.
Bergen had 216 sunhours in April.

Very wet April in the far north of Norway, with a lot of it in the form of snow:
Tromsø (20 m, Holt):
Avg high: 4.1°C
Avg low: -0.8°C
Mean: 1.3°C (-0.4°C)
Abs high: 12.4°C
Abs low: -6.8°C
Precipitation: 149.4 mm (243 %!)
Sunhours: 124 (below avg)

Apr was a rain save for my area. No rain in Jan and March and BOOM near 3" for Apr. Temps were cooler as well vs last Apr. Every month was below normal on rain last year but Apr had 5" and Nov had around 3" thanks to a TS. So 4 Apr's in a row with above normal rain and Apr is about the driest month of the year on avg.

April 2021 here was colder than average.

Mean temperature in my town in this April was 8.9c (mean for 1981-2010 period is 11.9c / and for 1991-2020 is 12.5c)

Average min: 3.4c / Average max: 14.4c

Coldest low: -3c (on April 9)

Coldest high: 5c (on April 14)

Warmest low: 11c (on April 30)

Warmest high: 25c (on April 30)

Number of days with frost: 7

It snowed on April 7 in the morning. 5-6 cm of snow fell, but melted after a few hours. It was first snow cover in April in my region since 1997.

Coldest average minimum temperature, since 100 years ago, very dry, probably sunnier than average. Overall a poor month IMO just for being far too cold.

April summary for DCA/Reagan National:

Highest Tmax: 88F
Average Tmax: 68.7F
Lowest Tmax: 47F

Highest Tmin: 67F
Average Tmin: 47.6F
Lowest Tmin: 31F

Monthly average: 58.2F - +1.4 vs old 30 year average

A slightly above average month (though probably average at best vs the new 30 year average). The warm to hot period at the end of the month really pushed it even there because otherwise it was mostly decidedly mediocre weather.

I'm afraid I don't have the exact details but what I can say is that it's been cold, damn cold! I don't know if it's official but I heard somewhere that here it's been the coldest April since records began? Temperatures have been around 10-11 degrees for most of it and the night time lows around freezing!! We have had a wind straight from the Arctic for weeks now!
I think I prefer Global Warming! :-/

Numbers from Hyslop Field north of Corvallis, OR.

Ave Max 66.6 (19.2); 6 (3.3) above most recent 30 year mean.
Ave min 36.5 (2.5); 3.4 (1.9) below most recent 30 year mean
Rainfall amounted to a scant 0.5 inches (12.7 mm) some 2.6 (66 mm) below the 30 year average.

An exceeding dry month. We haven't had one as dry since 1939 and only two others in the 130 year history of this site that were drier. This, on the heels of a March with only about 50% of standard rainfall for the month makes for a very dry beginning of spring.
The signature feature of this month and which may be guessed at by the astoundingly large spread between daytime and nighttime temperatures, was the number of sunny days and cloudless nights. We don't track sunshine hours here, but my calibrated eye tells me we had about 85% possible sunshine and we don't always get that much in high summer. It was a gorgeous month.
I made a prediction that April would be cloudy, cool and rainy. I blew it on all three counts so I won't make any predictions for May but if we get one as "gorgeous" as April was, we could be looking forward to a wildfire season even worse than last year's (if that's even possible).
