Gee, no wonder it was pretty cold here in NSW a few days ago.

Looks like the first good polar entry of the year here in the center of the country, starting tomorrow thru Saturday. Widespread snow towards the west, even in lowland areas. Let's see how it goes!

The cold entry overperformed. It snowed in the lowlands, including the first significant snowfall in Córdoba city after 14 years. And a lot in the hills/sierras of Cordoba and San Luis provinces. Regarding temperatures, even in the north of the country many cities had maxs in the single digits.
Here in the BA these last two days were the coldest of the year so far, with maxs around 10-11ºC both yesterday and today.

Bureau of Meteorology ( Western Australia )
Wintery blast on the way for parts of southern WA on Sunday and Monday, with rain and thunderstorms across northern parts of the state. A cold front approaching south west WA this afternoon, will move across southwestern parts of the state on Sunday, bringing cold, gusty and showery conditions, with possible thunderstorms and small hail. These conditions will continue into Monday. Temperatures will be cold, with maximums 4-8C below average across western WA. Some locations may struggle to reach double figures on Monday, with icy southerly winds and wind chills, making it feel even colder. Perth will be just 14C on Monday. Further north rain and thunderstorms will develop and spread across central and eastern parts of the Pilbara and northern Interior, with heavy falls possible. A low-pressure system may develop Monday into Tuesday near southern WA bringing more impacts, but it's a dynamic and changeable situation and impacts are highly dependant on if and where the low pressure system develops. So its important to stay up to date with the latest forecasts and any warnings issued. Know your weather. Know your risk. For the latest forecasts and warnings visit our website ow.ly/mxkr50Fcb7w or BOM Weather app.

This forecast shows how the polar air can affect very low latitudes in Latin America sometimes.

Anomalies of 10⁰C below average can reach the south of the Amazon. And it looks like a little bit of it can cross the equator line.

It's raining in every Aussie state today
( source: Weatherzone )
Not many weather systems can produce rain in every Australian state and territory at the same time. But this week, that’s exactly what a northwest cloudband and deep low pressure system have been doing.

The satellite image below shows the situation on Thursday afternoon, with Weatherzone's satellite-derived rainfall layer (Oracle) included to show where the rain is falling.

The speckled cloud over southern Australia is being caused by cold air that has been driven up from the Southern Ocean by a strong low pressure system. This low has also been causing damaging winds in South Australia during the last two days, including wind gusts of 109km/h at Cape Willoughby and 93km/h at Strathalbyn.

Here are some of the standout 24-hour rainfall observations from each state and territory this week:

WA: 48mm at Mandora - three months’ worth of rain at this time of year
NT: 10.4mm at Uluru - enough to cause waterfalls on the monolith
SA: 17.4mm at Streaky Bay – now having wettest June in 12 years
TAS: 30mm at Lorinna – wettest day so far this winter
VIC: 116mm at Mt Buffalo – wettest in the country during 24 hours to 9am Thursday
NSW: 85mm at Perisher Valley – wettest day since 2017
ACT: 11mm at Canberra – now wettest June in five years
QLD: 34mm at Windorah – wettest day in 15 months
Both the northwest cloudband and the low pressure system will continue to cause rain over multiple states and territories during the remainder of this week.

Most of the rain between now and Sunday will fall over southern and eastern Australia (see image below), although a separate cold front will bring another burst of showers and storms to the west coast on Sunday.

More severe weather and flooding is possible over the next few days, so be sure to check the warnings in your area.

Today some cities of my state had the lowest high temperatures in a long time:

- Porto Alegre: 9,3⁰C (second lowest for June since the weather station was installed in 1976, the lowest was 9,2⁰C in 2016).
- Canela: 2,8⁰C (since 2008)
- Bento Gonçalves: 3,5⁰C (since 2006)

The polar air reached the Amazon. The city of Labrea, latitude 7⁰S, almost sea level, had a high of 18⁰C this afternoon. Models indicate the polar air crossed the equatorial line.

Here in BA, we had 3 consecutive days with maxs below 10°C. I don't have the data to back it up, but I don't remember having 3 days in a row with sub-10 highs ever in BA.

8.5 C (47.3 F)

9.7 C (49.5 F)

9.8 C (49.6 F)

Last time it happened was in 2007. In 2000 there were 5 of those in a row (and 7 out of 8), and I think the overall record is 7 if i'm not wrong. Obviously only speaking about BA's central.
Nonetheless, very impressive polar blast considering we're in June still. For June it's the first streak of below 10 highs since 1977.
Additionally, in the frontier with Paraguay, at Pozo Hondo (22ºS, low elevation), the low was -7.3ºC yesterday, wich could be the 2nd lowest value for lowlands tropics anywhere in the world, according to a respectable source.
