We were suppose to have had a two week long cold stretch and the models held in there till 3 days out and the Artic Air literally bounced backwards up to the north ending it.
I'm sitting here like while other self proclaimed 'nerds' don't seem to care about weird weather behavior which shows to me they aren't really weather geeks if they aren't willing to question what's in front of their VERY OWN FREAKING EYES! To them it's model this or model that.

Not complaining nor complying.
Today may hit 55f Redmond, wa.
Going to be big snow melt this weekend as Pineapple Express brings the moisture.
YWMV

western cascade slopes need to recharge the soil for sustained river runoff.

We never had the blast down here like you guys did. Weather nerds seem to forget Oregon exists and that we are all somehow lumped in WA.

Lived in Salem for 65 yrs.
Living in Seattle area for 3yrs.
There are noticeable differences between the regions, Weatherwise. Haven’t lived in Seattle region long enough to say anything about the Climate, but imagine it’s similar to Willamette Valley.

op; My theory
What i have observed is in Puget Sound area, the cold weather will come from the Frasier Pass.
In Oregon the Cold weather will come thru the gorge and drop down the Valley and Coast. The wind and airflow near Wilsonville to North Portland is remarkable. Below Wilsonville, the weather will be warmer. Just south of Multnomah Falls, near Gresham there is a low spot where the air flow spills out of the gorge into the Valley. This is also where the Missoula Floods flowed into the Valley but not out (Willamette Falls and Willamette gorge just south of Oregon City.

Really hot weather (2021) and previously, the Gorge will also bring in the heat into Oregon.

for NYE, the cold from Frasier was essentially stopped at Chehalis/Centralia because the air flow from the Gorge stopped it.

How come the weather models were so bad on it and kept doing ridiculous numbers even up to day 3?

GFS always overdoes PNW cold. European is better, the Canadian nailed this one best.

personally, i only look closely at near term weather 1-3 days. Anything longer is more has a larger range of "ifs"
In either really hot or cold spells, the longer predictions get fairly accurate because the high and low pressures are so stong. Our typical PNW weather normal weather pattern will be what happens out in the ocean & northern Canada. ... alternating rain and dry spells. Days around the new moon and full moon will generally be fair.
