Rate the Climate: Extremely Stable Minneapolis-img_0591.jpeg
Being sandwiched between a warm tropical gulf and frigid arctic ice caps, the eastern U.S is well known for its extremely changeable weather, and no city embodies these two extremes quite like Minneapolis/Saint Paul. But what if this wasn’t the case? What if the weather in Minneapolis NEVER strayed from its averages by more than a few degrees? How would this change people’s opinions of its climate?

The above weatherbox is an approximation of this. MSP has now gone from a 5a hardiness zone to a transitional 7b/7a that can potentially grow needle palms, similar to present day NYC. Summers in real life MSP average above 86F around 40% of days, this now happens as often as it does in Edinburgh Scotland.

For the sake of simplicity, this only effects temperature. Precipitation days and sunshine hours are the same here as in real life MSP

This is a very peculiar climate. My climate grading formula gave it a 73.8% / C, but due to the lack of any prospect for any unseasonable change, I bumped my grade down to a D.

Regular Minneapolis gets an 82.2% / B, by the way. A pretty good climate, but a little too cold and dry to get an A rating.

Don't care for it. What I love about Minneapolis' climate is the extremities AS WELL as the average.
