I am new to this forum although I have been reading the forum for over the last two years and I was just curious.
Is the winter weather in Detroit tough to get used to? I am asking because many people have told me that winters in an area like this are tough to deal with.
The coldest weather I have ever dealt with is 25F but with at least 30-40 mph winds and I must say I handled that just fine so I don't see how it would be so tough to handle. I guess what I'm trying to say is if I was there visiting in the winter, how much trouble would that be for me?
Any help or opinions would be very much appreciated.
It probably depends on where you live now. The winter temps in Detroit appear to be quite a bit better then mine are. Imagine that. But they do seem to get a lot of lake effect snow so if you don't like a lot of the white stuff, it may not be the perfect spot for you.
If you handled 25F with 30-40 mph winds just fine, then I think you'll be okay in Detroit . The avg.low there is 20 in January, with 33 as an average high, so the average temp is 26.5. And 30-40 mph winds is pretty rare in Detroit, so I think you'll be just fine
Even as a young man after 7 years of it I got a serious case of the seven year itch to move on. I never adjusted to wet snow and icy windshields. Spring and falls were great. Summers pleasant too. I just never adapted well to the winters. Cabin fever just got me down.
We just moved from Michigan and the winters are sometimes hard to deal with but that is Michigan in winter Now having had to drive to Detriot in the winter on te highway that wasn't great. It seemed like they didn't plow.
Detroit winters are not that bad. Not a lot of snow there either, the lake effect snow is on the west side of the state for the most part and Detroit rarely gets any lake effect. Here is a fairly accurate link to Detroit weather: Moderator cut: link removed, competitor site
the winters last a long time and they dont get a lot of sunshine. most of the heavy lake effect snow wont reach detroit. its a little warmer than chicago.
