Depends on your definition of ideal.

Seasons: Upper Midwest

Mild: Coastal California (North cool and mild, South warm and mild)

Year round warm: Florida, Hawaii and extreme South Texas

Winter Wonderland: Upstate NY, Sierra Nevada or Rocky Mountain area.

Disaster-free: New Mexico is about as close to it as possible in the US.

coastal southern california (greater los angeles, san diego, and santa barbara areas). sunny and mild-to-warm the entire year, with very little rainfall and mostly sunny days 330+ days per year.

Not California or Florida; it can get cold in winter.

For a state, Hawaii wins hands down.
No real need to own any "warm clothing."
A bottle of sunscreen, a hat and a drink...
ah, that's my idea for bracing the elements.

I imagine almost everyone in CA and FL owns at least one warm jacket.
(I certainly would, perhaps even in Hawaii, but that's beside the point )

You are correct, most in Florida do have at least one warm jacket. But we rarely have occasion to use it.

Ideal for me would be any city/state that has defined 4 seasons. Some places get cooler, or maybe get a little snow that doesn't count with me.

I'm for the midwest where there is a definite spring, summer, fall and winter.

I wouldn't mind Canadian four seasons,
even if could count on winter was very challenging and very cold,
but spring you could count on being pleasantly warm
summer, pleasantly hot
fall, pleasantly warm again, with nice dry air, sunshine, crisp leaves.

But in real life (and how it affects me)
Spring is only pleasant and warm either on warm fronts or by late spring.
Fall is only pleasant during Indian Summer or during freak warm or dry & sunny spells

*If we could have a spring, summer and fall that each season was a "perfect relief" from winter then it'd be quite nice.
I find it a little too unpredictable, with the unpredictability erring on the side of too cool and too often.

**Congrats if you actually prefer your climate.
Some people prefer the unpredictability but the amount we get is not my thing.
