NBC and Blackstone candidates to buy Weather Channel

Has anyone heard anything about this? The article above was the most recent thing I could find on it. Someone told me that they did buy it and fired two of the people from TWC because they didn't believe in global warming.

Anyway, I'm just wondering if this buyout really did happen and why.

NBC Universal and a couple of private equity firms teamed up to buy The Weather Channel for $3.5 billion.
~~~~~~~~~~~
NBC Universal made the first of potentially several rounds of staffing cuts at The Weather Channel (TWC) on Wednesday, axing the entire staff of the "Forecast Earth" environmental program during the middle of NBC's "Green Week," as well as several on-camera meteorologists.
Thank you so much for that link. Just browsed through a couple of the comments and I felt the same way~Why in the world did they let Dave Schwartz go? He wasn't stuffy and I really enjoyed his presentations.
I dunno. I always enjoyed watching TWC so I guess we'll have to see what they plan on doing. Forecast Earth was always kind of interesting and I see they axed that, too.
I knew they were purchased awhile back but did not think they would let some of the people go. I always liked Dave S. and Cheryl Lemke. I watch the weather channel on a fairly regular basis.
WGN Radio (Chicago) used the weather channel on weekends for their weather and now that NBC owns it I wonder if that will continue as NBC is a competitor really.
I had read somewhere that NBC had bought TWC...now hopefully they'll move its headquarters out of Atlanta so the weather focus isn't always on them!!
J/K!!!!!
That would make sense, considering MSNBC now uses the weather channel, for their weather reports.
I saw Jim Cantore doing the weather segments on the Today show this morning....guess they're starting to farm out the talent to NBC/MSNBC and their respective news programs.
I do hope that TWC does change a little as they do tend to neglect the plains and the midwest!
I hope it will work out in the end for everyone involved. I use the TWC on the internet everyday but never see it on TV so names and faces don't ring a bell with me at this time. I hope the internet version remains a quality site.
