1) I learned that with no beard but with a tanned face,
my cheeks and nose don't get cold as easily
and they have not stung from the cold yet
even though I went on a 1/2 hr walk in 22 F air.
When I was on vacation,
I got a minimum of 1/2 hour of sun between U.V. level 3-5 daily.
*Southerners who travel up north and think 20 F or lower feels great
(and only experience it for 1-2 weeks)
might actually feel colder if they stay up here over a month;
which seems approximately how long it takes to lose your tan.
** Northern winters would probably be easier for me to handle if our minimum U.V. level was 4 in January,
though if our winters were milder I would not need as much U.V.
2) Probably because of my nerve disorder,
when the air is in the mid-80's with 79 F water
some of my fingers will go numb from "cold" after several hours
being in-and-out of the water...
I suppose if it was at least 90 F,
I would be able to regain my body-heat in minutes,
rather than an hour or more like when it's under 85 F.
3) When the humidity isn't extremely high and when I'm relaxed, rather than doing moderate-heavy excersize
I do not "prefer" air temps under 75 F, ever; day-evening-night... winter... doesn't matter.
This does not mean that it is too chilly for me,
but simply that I will not "thoroughly enjoy" the air temp if it is under 75 F.
(without "warm clothing" or at least light layers)

It was pretty nice.
Could have been better, but I also had a few unexpected pleasant surprises.
The overall experience was what I expected, so I'm happy about that.
IMHO, I now have what Kenny Chesney wanted for Christmas; a real good tan.
I'm impressed because I don't tan very easily, rather go reddish if I forego the sunscreen.
I used sunscreen most of the time, usually applying late in the morning.
Never burnt too noticeably so that was nice.
I so miss the how hot the sun felt down there;
feeling like 30-40 F above the shade temperature.
It's been sunny here too since I've been back,
but it feels strange how the sunshine only feels say 7-15 F warmer than the shade.
I especially enjoyed the weather as we went south of the 20th parallel;
a little extra warmth and heat from the sun. Occaisionally I would feel slightly hot in the sun, yet my skin didn't get sweaty.
It rained occaisionally, usually like a mist, but the dewpoints remained low enough to be almost unnoticeable.
(dewpoints of 70 F or lower perhaps?)

Is it strange that I enjoy the sunshine feeling 40 F warmer than the shade?
Or not enjoying 74 F (or lower) when I'm not in the mood to excersize?
But what I do not know is if I could be happy, or even handle the "brutal, never-ending heat"
in places like Texas, Arizona or even the inland tropics in hot spells.
But I suppose I can make an educated guess that that kind of never-ending heat only exists for people who can't handle heat well.

I actually went on a cruise recently and realized I am NOT a warm weather person. Only around the beach, pool, ladies, etc.
It was 93F in the Virgin Islands!!! And they were still getting "pop-up" storms like if it was summertime.....yet the water was still FREEZING!

Do you pretend to not be hot, or are you in reality tolerant of it, yet simply dislike heat unless you have some motivation?

I was in the U.S.V.I. and the water was 79 F.
No one would consider it a "bathtub" but it wasn't unbearable...
After I got in it didn't feel too bad;
it's like feeling 72 F A/C in a mall when you're only in sandals, shorts and a tank-top. They didn't have any wet-suits in my size so I had to dive without one. I only started to get cold after a half-hour underwater.
93 F? Lucky!
It was only in the low 80`s while diving and after I got out,
the air didn`t help me warm up very much after I dried off.
(eventually I did, but it took like 40 minutes;
if it were 90 F it would take under 5 minutes, at 95 F, I would warm instantly)

But yeah, it was 93F but with cooler-than-normal waters it wasn't all the humid at all, quite dry actually. Actually the Virgin Islands have a "Windward" and a "Leeward" side.....it was quite arid on the Leeward Side that got all of the Rain Shadow affect.

So you let them down and stay in the A/C?
I'll stay out all day, but I'm one of the first to put on a shirt as the cooler evening weather arrives.

When I was there last, it was actually slightly damp all over the island,
rather than it's usual semi-arid look on the south-facing slopes.
(which is probably why the high was only in the low-mid 80's)
BTW, what brought you to those islands?
(they aren't close to Florida )
I was on a cruise......took 3 days to get there!! Actually quite windy in most of the northern edge of the Carribean......Trade Winds.
