I live near NYC and we have around 2400 to 2500 (maybe?) hours of sunshine. A little more would be better, say 3000.

About 2800 would be nice, but not too many of them in summer.

I think 2500 hours like Chicago would be nice. Enough to enjoy it, but not hate it like I do here.

All I know for sure is that 2000 hours a year is miserable for me...
(every year has been a lot less sunny than I'm comfortable with)

Probably because I want sun energy to be a "normal" part of my life, with few exceptions.
(obviously anywhere in Canada is a far cry from that )

As far as sunshine and climate goes, Jamaican winters have a perfect balance of sun and cloud, IMHO.
I was there for 14 days and we only had noticeably dark, cloudy skies on two days,
and even each "cloudy day" still had a 3-6 hours of sun.

A good thing about many tropical areas is that, while totally clear days are rare (in Singapore, for instance, I barely remember seeing a cloudless day), it's almost equally rare to go a day without seeing the sun. Often it's sunny in the morning, you get a heavy afternoon shower, and the sun comes out again straight after that.

I like sunshine, but Lubbock gets a little too much for me. We get 3250 hours, and it is not uncommon for people to get sunburns in February. You usually have to squint your eyes when you go outside no matter what time of year it is. Sometimes there are days on end where you don't even see a cloud. I would like for it to be more cloudy; not necessarily solid could cover, but at least a few clouds to cover the sun more often. I guess 2700-2800 sounds nice.

whoa dude, where's the love for your cloudy days? It's just like the time when you said that the temps/dp in Sabtown of 30/26C was pleasant I think you secretly enjoy the odd hot and suny day or two

You'd hate Melbourne then We get a mere 2150 hours of sun per year, and that's at the Airport, the "sunniest" part of Melbourne and we get far more cloud than sun between March and November.

Actually Melbourne is such a nice city I could probably put up with the climate to live there. I'd rather live in Melbourne with it's climate than Sydney, which has a better climate.
