-5 degrees of Fahrenheit, right? Still colder than anything that NYC has seen in the last decade. Regardless the wind, Stockholm has colder, darker and longer winters.

I'd say NYC climate compares with that of northern Balkans (Belgrade, for example).

^^ The one big difference is that Belgrade, Bucharest, Sofia etc are significantly drier (Belgrade has about 27 inches (700 milimeters) of precipitation per year).

Anyway, I'd take NYC. Climate in Stockholm seems kinda boring to me.
That climate data is wrong and old. That one was from 1961-1991.
The new one is updated.

If so, he's dead wrong. Look at archives on Weather Underground.

I lived in Stockholm for 20 years and I know the weather there.

During winter, the shortest day on Dec 21, it has 6 hr 20 min of daylight.
During summer, the longest day on Jun 21, it has 18 hr 30 min daylight.

Temperatures during winter could drop down to -10 C, and also go up to 32 C/90F for few days a year.
