The all time high of a whopping 115° was recorded in New York City's city limits on July 9th, 1936. Central Park in Manhattan (which is cooler than NYC's more urban parts) recorded a high of 107°. I think it was drier than normal because humidity usually suppresses the actual temperature (its far more common for NYC to have a heat index of 115° than an actual temperature of 115°).

I couldn't imagine being above ground with the hot air blowing in your face then going underground where the temperature is atleast 15° hotter, and not to mention all the body heat from the crowds of people. **
