We get -15 F nearly every year, even if it's only our morning low.

Wow that is awful! And I thought Pennsylvania was cold.

That's nothing too.
Toronto is in a milder part of Eastern Canada.

Much of Eastern Canada, excluding the Atlantic Coastal areas
should see lows of at least -25 F most winters;
these are the kinds of places that average 0 F as a January overnight low.

Phoenix is maybe 7 hours drive from San Diego; day-tripable.
Probably even closer to Las Vegas.
7 hours driving when starting from the Pilbara or Kimberely still wouldn't get you very far.

killer bees and the booming population straining the Colorado River.
Phoenix is only 5.5 hours from San Diego. We have the high country, including Flagstaff nearby. Phoenix is the expereinces the greatest number of days above 100 degrees of any metro area in the US, while Flagstaff, 100 miles away, experiences the greatest number of days below 32 degrees of any metro area in the lower 48. Yet, people say that Arizona has a boring climate.

Some pictures of Flagstaff:

It hits 115 every summer. People here are used to it. Now, if it hits 120, that's a different story. Luckily it hasn't done that in almost 20 years, when we hit 122.
