79, consistently. I've found its best to pick a temperature and stick with it, rather than monkeying it up and down all the time. Unless you're going to be gone for awhile, say, more than 3 hours, it isn't worth it to turn it up the power it back down.

Still, our last bill was $440!

Our power bills are every 2 months and we've never had one hit $400 yet. The highest was $340. But they're set to rise by quite a bit due to the previous State government's stupidity So I may see the magic $400 mark crossed by summer!

I can't get over some of the utility bills! Electric and natural gas combined might be $200 in a really cold Dec. or Jan. but hasn't so far. Of course, I live in a small Cape Cod house (story & a half) and I don't try to heat it to 70 in the winter, 68 max.

My electric bill goes up about 30.00 if I am using the A/C plus the dehumidifier in the basement runs constantly. I pay water, sewer, electric, garbage (one bill) to the city July and Augsut are the only months its over $100. I've found my utilities cheaper here than in NE Illinois but I get in trouble every time I mention it on the Wisconsin forum! They all think Wisconsin is so expensive, maybe in Milwaukee or Madison utilities are high, mine are cheap.

Here it's the water bills that will rise by 65% due to that retarded idiot state government of ours

That's especially unfair given they don't seem to want to supply your State with any water in the first place. No dams, nothing. Ridiculous. You have the worst water restrictions in the country, from what I gather.

Even between our two countries, it seems very State-specific as to power bills. I've always been of the opinion that the US is cheaper for most things than Oz (I've been to the US loads of times). But power ain't necessarily one of those things, from comments on this thread. Depends on what State.

Our gas is separate from our electricity and that's about $120 - for 3 months. Not too bad.

If electricity's cheap in Australia,
maybe I could run an electric heater "round-the-clock" to keep my living space at a toasty 24-25 C in winter,
without too steep an expense.

The reason for the price hike is to pay for the new desalination plant and for that stupid pipeline

Mine's set at 52°. I turn mine all the way down at the end of the heating season. (I don't have A/C; I prefer fresh air.) Room usually stays between 70-75 this summer in Western New England. A couple nights I've had to close the windows to keep the room from getting too cold. This summer's been oddly cold.
