Don't worry deneb78, with global warming Victoria winters are getting milder

I even think it's possible to grow a Canary Island Date Palm, with the help of a micro climate,
like planting it next to a south facing wall

JAN avg -0.9C high -8.1C low
JULY avg 27.9C high 17.4C low

There are a few other places in southern Ontario that have similiar stats,
like Niagara Falls and St Catharines.

True, it is a subtropical climate, but since Amherstburg's average is -2.9C in the coldest month, and thus only 0.1C away from the threshold, I think we can safely call it a borderline climate. It's about as subtropical as Bermuda is or about as semi-arid as a climate that is only 1 mm away from the humid threshold, which is to say that right at the border any given climate type will take on a lot of characteristics from whatever zone they're bordering, and that should be noted when labeling climates. To be sure, there is some subjectivity here as to what is called borderline and what is not, but I'm equally sure that being 0.1C away from the border qualifies.

With that negative PDO sticking around for the next few decades, don't bet on it . Besides, even under the most intense global warming scenarios, it takes decades for Victoria to become that warm, and I don't think Deneb is willing to wait that long for a mild winter.

Am I reading this correctly? Are you stating that a climate with a -2.9C average temp in the coldest month is as subtropical as Bermuda?

Yes but I have actually seen a 5 foot Queen Palm along the water side with no winter protection.

Yep - bring it on. It wouldn't be the first 5 ft Queen I've seen down by the docks.
