Maybe we should switch places - would you be willing to live in a cool-summer and cloudy climate in exchange for warmer winters?
Eh. Not sure if I'd like that trade. I like my May-Sept weather too much. Your climate is too cloudy and stays cool for too long for the trade to be worth it perhaps a warmer oceanic climate would be a better trade. Ask me in late February and my answer might be different. I remember the mildness and greenness of England a bit of a relief.

And my average July max is 29°C. So, the hottest day an English location gets for a year is the average high for my warmest month and the coldest morning an English location gets for a year is the average low for my coldest month. For me, July is a much consistent month than January. July maxes are usually very close to the averages with a few exceptions while Jan mins flop all over the place.

July average absolute max: 35.3°C

The difference between my Jan average absolute max (-22.6°C) and January average min (-10°C) is much larger than my July average absolute max and average high. Do the northern European posters have the same pattern?

I just worked out my average absolute maxmimum temperature, which came in at 31.2C... (2001-2011 data used).

Boosted a little by the hot summers of 2003 & 2006, as it usually reaches at least 30C once or twice each summer...

My own highest low (2001-2011) was +1.0C in winter 2007/2008 & +0.2C in 2006/2007...

For Braemar, yes, for London, no.

Braemar could actually be classifided as a Subarctic climate. I believe that they have a min of -12c and the average high is 39f in December.

Do they have more Snow than Rain in the Winter though?

So London is more likely to record larger deviations from the average in July than January? Braemar looks horribly cloudy though with a warmer January than anywhere I lived.

Judging from the stats, I'd guess far more rain than snow on average though probably capable of some heavy snowfall. I assume you mean a -12°C absolute average min not a January min of -12°C.

Highest low for me in the last ten years is -15°C, last year. Looks to be the warmest low on record.

Depends on the station used - Heathrow's record low is -13C with an average low of 2.0C in January. Central London has a record low of -10C with an average low of 2.6C in January.

Well I was referring to the winter season not the whole year.
