No, but like Queenstown and Arrowtown it's in the right general region of the country. Alexandra has an annual average rainfall of only 345mm, the lowest in NZ (and a marked summer maximum and late winter minimum). The correct location is not an "obscure" one, by the way.

Ok, how about Wanaka? It has a higher annual average rainfall than Alexandra.

Yep! Well done!

Wanaka and Queenstown are in one of the SI areas where rainfall is near-uniform over the year. The timings of seasonal maxima and minima vary considerably over the island, much of that due to topography.

I just looked at some pictures from Wanaka and it looks very similar to southcentral Alaska.
