This is an excellent synopsis and I recommend anyone with an interest in meteorology to read it. I remember the weather pattern well and lived in the Kansas City, MO area at the time. It felt like the arctic circle there for awhile and I highly doubt they will ever record temperatures that low again.
I remember that cold month even though I was a little kid, partly because school was canceled so much and all the record lows that were set. Even today at many cities in the midwest those record lows still stand. December in the year 2000 was also a cold one in the lower midwest.
