If you know bad weather is coming, and there is a chance you might be housebound for a day or more, what do you run out to buy or stop for on the way home from work? I've always noticed, no matter where I've lived, that the stores do a pretty good business in anticipation of a storm (snow, hurricane, etc.).

I must say that I always stock up on non perishable items - a family habit. So I guess I could manage in case of surprise bad weather conditions.
But if I knew bad weather is coming I would probably plan ahead and buy whatever I may need and/or don't have yet.

I'm fairly well stocked up with my home canning all winter so I could make do if needed. But I pick up, if out, milk when a storm is heading our way. If not I keep powdered here for emergencies.

I do more preparedness of drawing up water in coolers & buckets in case we lose power. Brew up a couple of gallons of tea and have drinking water for teeth brushing. Plus keeping all the flashlights & candles in one closet is handy.

I was living in Washington state when Mt St Helens erupted in the 80s. Having slept in that day, pretty much everyone else where I lived had a headstart getting to the grocery store. By the time I got there the closest parking spot was a block away. The shelves were getting mighty bare looking. I had to stand in the check out line for a couple hours. After all that, the ash cloud passed to the North of us.

Mr. L says we could survive a couple of weeks but years ago when kids were young-it would be loads of snacks.

Thank goodness we're good on food and we probably aren't going anywhere today due to the weather.
It would be nice if I had a frozen pizza but a grocery store is a mile down the street so if absolutely necessary, we can go to the store and get some things.

We have plenty of apples (my fave), ramen noodles (quick, easy, and cheap), milk, cereal, oatmeal, waffle/pancake mix, bacon, beef, chicken, etc.

In other words, we're set.

Hopefully the roads will be okay tomorrow because I need my 8 hours tomorrow!

It's hilarious to watch people rush to the stores in a snow panic. It's like, at the drop of the first snowflake, stores will shut down for a month! lol We have a big snow coming today in western Kentucky. My wife and I had already gone to the store over the weekend. I gassed up the cars and that was it!

It really depends on what the anticipated event is, and how long it might keep us housebound. I generally don't worry about stocking up on anything when snow is in the forecast - we're in Wisconsin, after all, and that's just normal winter weather. If the gas gauge is getting low and the weather gurus are calling for extreme cold, I'll fill up the tank, but that's about it.

When we lived in a hurricane region, though, it was a little different, because a direct hit from a major storm can knock things out for days, along with making travel difficult or impossible. We'd stock up on canned goods, drinking water and propane for the camp stove, but we'd do that at the beginning of hurricane season instead of waiting until an actual storm was forecast. We also used to keep a dozen or so sheets of plywood in the shed out back, to cover windows, because the lumber yards would sell out of plywood within hours of a hurricane prediction.

I'm pretty well stocked for emergencies but if I'm low on milk I'll get an extra gallon. And extra batteries, if I don't have what I might need.
