No, just very complicated. "North" is defaulted to the direction the arm faces in, so that if you install it with the arm facing north and the vane is aligned with the arm, you get a north reading, and it works out wind direction from the difference between the arm angle and vane angle.
Problem in my case is that the arm couldn't be made to face north in my installation. So it needs calibrating to give the right direction. Problem is that even though I know roughly what angle the arm is pointing (relative to north) thus I know my calibration factor; I buggered it up in the console so it's way off now and I need to deliberately align the vane with the arm again, usa a compass to determine the direction, and then calibrate it while holding the vane in line with the arm by the angle difference between the vane/arm and the real north. This kind of thing does my head in. So for the moment the only accurate thing is the wind speed but not the direction.
As for the actual wind speed right now it's only been showing gusts up to 7-8 mph for the last hour or so and it's quite calm at the moment.
The weather looks promising. A few nice days, to get thru the weekend. Rain forcast for most of next week. Not sure where we are supposed to put more water.
I'm happy the days are longer (sunset is around half an hour past eight now) and the temperatures are starting to get more in line with my preferences.
I just met up with a few of my old university classmates to eat dinner today. We went to a Thai restaurant, and I ordered something really spicy not knowing how little I could handle it. My mouth was burning like mad and I kept on asking the waiter for tons of water! My friends all seemed to be able to enjoy their food a lot more than I could (though some of them ordered stuff as hot as I did).
I guess though I may love the heat weather-wise, but not so much in this sense.
Very, very happy to be fleeing Sydney's horrid dry, sunny and windy westerly weather tomorrow , flying down to Melbourne for a 2-day work conference & taking 3 days annual leave over the weekend. Weather is expected to be cold, cloudy and showery (with hail at times) until Monday .
