That's interesting. According to that website, the cost of living in Leeds is slightly higher than in New York, but our purchasing power is higher, despite wages being lower.

Must be an England only thing then. Can our English posters verify me on this? None of the McDonald's we went to in Berkshire put salt in the fries. You had to do it yourself.

Purchasing power has little to do with how much you earn. Think of purchasing power being how "efficient" a currency is. Inflation is lower in the UK than in the US. Also, the cost of living indicator is just an overall assessment, I look more into specifics like housing and groceries.

The reason for this is goddamn foreign investors, mostly from China buying up all the land and property

A small 3br house on a tiny block of land an hour's drive from the city is $300,000 these days. Out in the country, the situation is much better, decent homes can be had in many country towns for $150,000 or so. But you know, no jobs there....

But if you want to live in a larger metro area, the only way you can purchase is if you earn a lot or have a spouse who also works.

My mum is always nagging me to buy investment properties and keeps pointing out how her friend's son does it. HOW THE **** CAN I AFFORD INVESTING WHEN ITS UNLIKELY I'LL EVER OWN MY OWN GODDAMN HOUSE TO BEGIN WITH, WITH PROPERTY PRICES LIKE THIS This country is ****ed. It's not what it used to be
They're doing that in Vancouver as well. Had been doing it. Down in my country, it's been mostly California and Washington. I'm really tired of house flippers buying up property with no intention of living in it or renting it out.

So basically, the only way to live there is like New York City: you gotta rent. I looked into real estate prices myself and thought, WTF?

When I last went to McDonald's, the fries were very salty - pretty disgusting actually. I couldn't eat them all.

Because it is sunny and warm outside, I can keep my room at 74F instead of 70 at no extra cost.

I don't mind salty fries, but I like when they're hot and fresh, which is rarely the case. 90% of the time the fries at McDonald's are soft/soggy and taste reheated.

I don't eat fast food too often, but when I do it's usually Wendy's.

Same here. If I had to pick fast food, I'd definitely pick Wendy's. Too bad more people don't eat there as opposed to McD's. But, McD's selling point is cheap, and people want cheap. I always get the chili from Wendy's, fantastic

I mostly just go to a regular burger joint. A bit more of a wait, but usually worth it.

I find Mac's coffee is quite good, but avoid the food.
