Yes, that's probably the reason. Mechanically they were superb, but tricky to repair even minor things yourself. The 406's problem with turning off was indeed an unknown electrical failure.
I'm so happy I don't have an car, especially when all my cars have been old terrible late 80's or early 90's chunks of metallic rubbish.
Some older cars are amazingly reliable, more so than a lot of modern cars anyway. There's just too many things that can go wrong with modern cars, and when they do go wrong it's usually incredibly expensive to repair.
My Wife never seems to have any problems with her car, it's always me!
