LAX still flies non-stop to Tokyo. And to South Korea and China. A lot of business and tourists flies into LAX from the western Pacific, and Los Angeles is our lifeline to Asia

Yeah, lol. I pulled up a list, and planes go out of LAX directly to Tokyo, Seoul-Incheon, Beijing, Shanghai, Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong, Manila and Taipei

What is 1000 miles further and where do they not have direct flights?

All the cities I listed have direct flights flying out of LAX. Qantas, Delta, and United fly non-stop from LAX to Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne and they all take roughly 14.5 hours to get to each place. To Asia, Nowhere in Europe flies non-stop to Australia (although I think BA has non-stop seasonal flights to Perth, I think) all year round. Dubai is the closest city to Europe that flies non-stop to Australia.
BA doesn't fly to Perffff, only to Sydney. Qatar flies from Melbourne to Budapest and Vienna, with only a 1.5 hour wait in Doha, you do have to change planes though, but with such a short wait, it's really not much different than getting off and on the same plane.

It wouldn't be possible to fly from western Europe (e.g. UK, France, Austria, Germany etc) to Australia (the civilised side) non-stop anyway with the distance involved.

It seems like people vote differently in EU elections than local/national ones. Either, different people turn out or people vote mainly on EU-related issues (perhaps more protest voting rather than for those who might be better administrators / more reasonable ideologically)

Got all 4 of my tires and car battery replaced today so hopefully now I won't have to worry about any more ultra-cost car cockups for a while.

The final total turned out to be slightly less than what I was quoted when I phoned them yesterday so happy with that, plus I get a free tire checkup and wheel balancing after 5000km.
