Theoretically it can earn you a 1-year jail sentence and a €3,750 fine. Driving under the influcence of weed earns a 2-year sentence and a €4,500 fine. This weekend a cop stopped me for a DUI test (alcohol) and asked me if I had been taking drugs recently. I answered "I smoke weed at new year's eve". He took my word for it and said that's ok.
What a waste of prison space and taxpayers' money, seriously 5 years for smoking weed? How stupid.
Are you sure it's not for "intent to sell"? I really have a hard time seeing someone get 5 years for a simple possession charge.
Here in Victoria, Australia, if you are caught possessing up to 50g of weed twice, you only get a "caution" (warning) and an opportunity to attend a drug education program. IN other words, if you get caught with up to 50g of weed twice in a row, you won't even be fined. Further offenses you will be fined and will require attendance of a drug education program. You only get into serious **** if you possess large quantities (250g or more) or are dealing. Even then, you will more likely get a fine of a few hundred dollars rather than any jail term.
You get a stiffer penalty if you are caught doing 10kmh over the speed limit than if you are caught smoking weed here in Victoria, Australia
Western Australia (Perfff) is much stricter, possession of up to 10g of weed will require mandatory drug education program, and quantities larger than 10g can mean up to 2 years in jail or $2000 fine, although in practice this is unlikely to happen, unless if you're a repeat offender.

Some cops here look the other way. US marijuana policy makes absolutely no sense from a law enforcement and social POV.

I end and start every year being drunk, but I've never tried being high at that moment. I'll try that for 2015
I'm in a very smart ass type of mood today, considering I'm about to have an 11 hour shift in Customer Service....I should probably tone it down.
That sounds horrible. I don't work in customer service, but I'm still on the front lines so I deal with numerous customers throughout the day. My previous job required far more customer interaction. Made me extremely anti-social and more appreciative to the services I receive as a customer.

That's exactly how I feel since I've started working with customers. I'm a lot nicer to cashiers and other retail employees now than I was before (not that I was an ass to begin with, but I'm a lot more conversational now and much more appreciative ) also made me realize how lacking in common sense 99% of people are.
Mind you, I don't work in retail, I work in a bakery so the questions I get are really, really stupid....
^^ True, though alcohol and cannabis aren't mutually exclusive.

They do it here too for smokers. People don't get caught for smoking weed, though they're probably less lenient for other practices, like purchase and storage. Once a cop went into a house party because a neighbor complained about the noise. From the smell, it was obvious that a lot of persons were smoking joints, but he didn't say anything about that.
