The weather of the NE USA at times seems to be the mirror opposite of UK weather. The last two months (or at least Sept) we've had torrential rains here. In August we got over 20" of rain, and in Sept we got 10.3". They say we are now entering into a dry period. See forecast below. This past week we had two days in the mid 50'sF, with clouds while you guys were basking in 80F. In April/May we were stuck with clouds/damp cool conditions for days on end, while the UK was sunny with record high temps. Then June/July were sunny and hot while the UK went damp and cool.

Now the UK is going into a wet period with westerlies, yet we enter into a warm, dry period with 80F forecast by the weekend. I think the cut-off low stuck over us for weeks must have been part of some blocking pattern now as in April/May. I've grown to despise the Greenland blocking high, cause for us it means an ever permanent low stuck over us. We're not a maritime climate, so we shouldn't have to deal with low pressure for days on end.

Good - we need all the rain we can get this coming autumn/winter in the east/southeast!

It's below 10°C / 50°F in the day, and that scares me.

Here we haven't had below 10C at all since the morning of September 24th. In fact, the month so far is still 6C above average!

October's still 7°C above average here. But we only got above 10°C for about two hours today, the coldest day since a long time.

Yikes. Another freeze warning. Felt pleasant in the low 60s in the afternoon but the morning was chilly and so is my apartment.

First time I had to wear a real jacket since August...

It's the weather for full-blast heating, chocolate, fudge and booze.

Today is the type of day that makes me feel very cosy, being inside the house all warm and snug.. but today's weather is fairly dull and boring and not interesting.. October certainly the most boring month of the year.

Forecast the first sunny day for over a week, and it's 100% overcast again!!

If not for the green of the plants outside, everything might as well be in black and white! Grey clouds, grey pavement, grey stone buildings, and lots of black, silver and white cars on our street. Yuk! Nuclear winter eat your heart out.

Ugh... I know the feeling well, believe me. We've had some terrible prolonged gloomy spells here this year. It feels like being in an old black and white movie.
