In ATL, it starts cooling down around Mid november.

In CNJ, it starts cooling down by Early october.

I consider cooling down = below 65 F highs.

September can be very good, some years I like better than summer,
most days are nice and warm.
A few years we're lucky and warm weather continues into October (Indian Summer).

November is more gloomy and cool, good hiking weather, I hike
the Bruce Trail most november weekends.

Mid-November is generally when we begin to get a taste of winter, but the cold isn't really consistent until Mid-December.

Average first day with high below 65 F in Atlanta is October 9. First date with average high below 65 F is November 6. Fall comes earlier than you think.

I would say once the high drops below 10°C. This happens usually in Mid/Late October for the first time. Average date for the first sub 10°C high is November 3rd.

I wear shorts from some time in June to some time in September. I've switched to jeans before September is out.

Cold here usually around early/mid June - when days can regularly get that pesky chilly feeling.
