Well as soon as I stepped off the plane from Perth to here in New York, I was hit by blast of cold air and it's only 1 degree tonight, pretty cold to what I'm used to!

I would say September is definitively warm and October definitively isn't. Looks like OP considers a day cooler than 68/50 to be on the cold side, so by that definition, it starts getting cold in early October.

And it starts being warm around mid-late May although May/June is very fickle. Can be 85 and sunny one day and 60 and rainy two days later.

Huh? It is currently 11C at JFK airport at 12 midnite, and 12C here in Philly. Where the heck is it 1C in New York lol?

mid/ late november. By late november you definitely need a coat / gloves / hat if you plan on staying outside a bit without moving.

october can be cool in the daytime but it's hardly cold, we still have many days with lows above 10c...

Less than 27/80: Late September
Less than 21/70: Mid October
Less than 15/60: Mid November
Less than 10/50: Early December

Avg highs are never under forty and max out at 89.4, so close to ninety degrees Fahrenheit.

Today for this year, with the first proper frost of the year at -1C this morning. A nice sparkling one as well. Still managed the 20sC by lunchtime though.

This is a later first frost than usual.

In Cleveland, it's mid-september. But in Nashville where I live now, it usually doesn't start to feel crisp until the third week of October.
