I went to a bridal shower and before the gifts were opened the bride-to-be passed out a stack of envelopes. She instructed each guest to self-address an envelope and give it back to her so she could use them to send thank you cards.

I had never heard of this before. Is addressing your own thank you card envelope a common practice?

I've never heard of this, but it sounds like a great idea! It would make the logistics of keeping track of everyone's mailing address to an absolute minimum.

It has happened to me a few times. Initially, I was put off by it but I guess the 2nd time I was ok with it.

How completely tacky!! The only thing worse would have been to ask the guests to provide their own stamp, too. Or better yet, have them write the Thank You card themselves.

If you didn't know the guest's addresses, where did you send the invitation?

Since when does the bride invite people to her bridal shower? Isn't that the maid of honor's job? Plus, with people sending/RSVPing to invitations through wedding websites and FB pages, you don't need to have their mailing address to invite them.

I thought it was tacky too! I wanted to ask the guests near me if we should just write our own cards too.

I am just old fashioned, I guess.

Last year I attended a baby shower where each guest was handed a card with a website address on one side and an address label with the new mom's address on the other. It was for an online disposable diaper site, and each guest was asked to order 12 dozen diapers to be delivered to the new mom's address. I hadn't heard of that either.

Then the MOH can certainly provide the bride the addresses.

Well, I guess I won't have to deal with this. As I don't have a Facebook account, I'll never have to attend a party (where traditionally I'm expected to bring a gift) where the host couldn't be bothered to know my address and send a real invitation.

Yeah, the goal was that if each guest had 12 dozen diapers sent to the new mom's address she would have enough diapers to last for the first three months or six months, I have forgotten which it was supposed to be.
